Vacation Alaska: The Last Frontier

Alaska became our 49th state on January 3, 1959...so it is relatively young to the US. Going to Alaska is a mix of some of the most amazing sights you will ever see. The state is immense, it seems to go on forever. The best way to see all that Alaska has to offer is to take a CruiseTour...and personally, I believe the best way is to fly into Anchorage or Fairbanks and do the land tour first, then board a ship in Seward and sail along the coast. They are truly 2 different experiences.

The highlight of the land tour is always a visit to Denali National Park. There you are likely to see wildlife in abundance, beautiful untouched landscapes and many other surprises. The trip is not complete unless you take some of this inland journey on the dome car trains....where each slight turn gives you another breathtaking vista. And if you are lucky, you will see The Mountain....Mount McKinley, or Denali as she is known there. Her elevation is 20,320 feet, which is North America's tallest peak. It is a spectacular sight to see, one you will remember for your entire life.

The cruise is another amazing way to see other parts a different and unique side of Alaska; the coastal area. You will visit such areas as Sitka, which has a Russian influence due to settlement by the Russians there. You can also see the Totem Poles in Ketchikan. Another amazing thing you will experience on an Alaskan cruise is seeing a glacier, with it's blue, blue ice and then noticing that it is going to calve. What an amazing sight to witness.

Alaska is almost indescribable to those who have not experienced it, but it is a trip that should be on everyone's list, to see that vast and amazing land in the frozen North!
